We often discuss the importance of taking folic acid before and during your pregnancy, but what about taking care of yourself after your child is born?
Your health and well-being are just as important as your child’s.
First, make sure you’re getting enough rest. You’ll need it to have the energy to take care of your new baby. Be willing to accept help from friends and family when they offer, and take the time to relax or nap.
Find time to be physically active. It can be hard, but taking 30 minutes a day for physical activity is beneficial for your health in the short and long term. Break your activity up into 10 or 15-minute intervals. If you need to, include your newborn by taking him for a walk too or the two of you can even dance around the house.
Also, make sure you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet. The right foods will provide you with energy throughout the day.
So remember to keep taking folic acid. There are benefits to the b-vitamin beyond just helping prevent birth defects. That’s why we call it “Your vitamin for LIFE”!
